women rabbis and the conflict between moral sensibilities and halacha

A post by me on women rabbis, tefilah groups, and the conflict between moral sensibilities and halacha over at Mishmar.

  1. While I generally identify with your point, I take issue with the following line.

"This is exactly the situation that has been created by those who will not question the heter of R' Soloveitchik to teach women gemara, as kvar horah zakein, but fail to provide any opportunity for women to use that learning for practical good or appreciate why they should want to do so."

How can you say such a thing? Do you really think that the only purpose of learning is to become a rabbi? What about understanding the halachic issues that confront you in your daily life, or understanding davening better so you can have more kavannah, or simply learning "lishma"? Do you see no value in any of that?

[note: I would have posted this there, but cannot get to Haloscan right now]
